May marks Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to education, prevention, and early detection. As an aesthetic clinic, we’re passionate not only about helping you look your best - but also about keeping your skin healthy and safe.

Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, but the good news is that early detection saves lives. Knowing what’s normal for your skin—and what isn’t—can make all the difference.

Why Skin Checks Matter

Your skin is constantly changing, but not all changes are harmless. Regularly checking your moles, freckles, and lesions can help you spot anything unusual early on.

If something looks different, new, or evolving—it’s always worth getting it checked.

What’s Normal?

Most moles and skin marks are completely harmless. Typical features of a normal mole include:

  • Even colour (usually tan, brown, or flesh-toned)

  • Symmetrical shape

  • Smooth, well-defined borders

  • Stable size and appearance over time

It’s completely normal to have moles and pigmentation—what matters is noticing change.

What’s Not Normal?

Use the ABCDE rule as a guide when checking your skin:

  • A – Asymmetry: One half doesn’t match the other

  • B – Border: Edges are irregular, blurred, or jagged

  • C – Colour: Multiple colours or uneven shading

  • D – Diameter: Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)

  • E – Evolving: Any change in size, shape, colour, or sensation

Other warning signs include:

  • Bleeding or crusting

  • Itching or tenderness

  • A sore that doesn’t heal

  • A new mole appearing in adulthood

Visual Guide: What to Look For

  • Normal vs abnormal moles

  • Irregular and regular borders

Our “May My Mole” Service

To support Skin Cancer Awareness Month, we’re offering our “May My Mole” checks—a dedicated service designed to give you peace of mind.

During your appointment:

  • We assess your moles and skin lesions

  • Identify any areas of concern

  • Advise whether monitoring or further medical referral is needed

This is a quick, professional way to stay proactive about your skin health.

Lesion Removal with CryoPen

For benign lesions, we also offer CryoPen treatment—a safe and effective method of removing unwanted skin imperfections.

CryoPen uses a precise jet of nitrous oxide to:

  • Freeze and destroy abnormal tissue

  • Treat skin tags, age spots, warts, and certain benign lesions

  • Deliver fast results with minimal discomfort

Your practitioner will always assess suitability before treatment to ensure safe and appropriate care.

Take Action This May

Skin awareness isn’t just for one month—it’s a lifelong habit. But May is the perfect time to start.

  • Check your skin regularly

  • Don’t ignore changes

  • Book a professional assessment when in doubt

Your skin tells a story—make sure you’re listening.
