The stigma attached to non-medics working in aesthetics.

I am an individual who can really see this 'argument' from both sides and I think it's important that the industry does too. There seems to be a high number of people with very strong opinions on this topic and in real honesty, if it is not directly impacting you as an individual, then what does it matter?

I can completely understand that people may prefer to attend a clinic with a medic working there and this is often feedback I get from clients as one of the reasons they came to see me. Now don't get me wrong, this of course is amazing for my business! Although I don't think being a medic is the only aspect that is important in aesthetics..

I have many friends in the aesthetics industry who are non-medics and am aware of a high number of popular clinics run by non-medics that are extremely successful and mirror my ethos of natural results. On the flip side, there are a great number of business' that do not match my ethos and I wouldn't be recomending or trusting them with a needle in my face...

Prior to being in the industry, many many years ago, I attended a clinic being run by a Nurse and had my lips done for the first ever time. Well, lets just say I didn't return.... Looking back, they were probably one of the worst results after lip filler I have ever seen! I so wish I had photos now to reflect on but we can only keep so much hey! So it just goes to show, that just because this lady was a nurse, it doesn't mean she was automatically amazing at her job!

I can appreciate that some clients are concerned with 'emergencies' and this is a deciding factor in attending a medics clinic. However, I saw a fantastic post last week from a non-medic. She documented her amazing process and intervention in a vascular occlusion that she had caused in the nose from injecting a very small amount. She was thorough, detailed, safe, transparent and confident in recognising an occlusion.

So the long & short of it.... I think it is completely person dependant and there is not one overall factor that should cause a client to choose that injector. Of course, if they feel more comfortable with a medic, and this would have a drastic impact on their experience or cause anxieties, then they should go ahead with this. However, it's imperative that they are considering all other factors such as the injectors qualifications in aesthetics, their length of time in the industry, their experience overall, their experience in dealing with complications, their own results etc..
